Java HotSpot JVM

i was wondering is it java virtual machine is the same like java hotSpot jvm?

What does that means by "hotSpot" in this place..

Why in Java World there are too many "vocab" around until confused everyone..

JVM - is stands for Java Virtual Machine

'HotSpot' is just the mnemonic name of one of Sun's realization for it.

For instance Bea has it's own JVM realization, which they call JRockIT

The are just one or other performance enhancement strategy used when implement a JVM. You actually don't need to care until you are concerned about your applicatioin performace. and here is a good article when the performance issue is on your plate:

It should be noted though that that document is over 2 years old, and the garbage collector has had a massive overhaul in 1.4, so parts of that document may be wrong...

Still a good read though :-)

Can anyone here, know how to use this jvmstat tools to monitor my garbabe collector performance graph or anyone here used it before...

please share with me since I have no idea how can i invoke it to be running...
