Bridging 2Wire 1000SW DSL Modem to a Netgear MR814v2
I have SBC DSL (SBC gave me a 2Wire 1000SW DSL Modem), and needing to expand my network, I added a Netgear MR814v2 Wireless 4-Port router. I have read, and was also told by 2Wire support, that I needed to set one of the routers into a bridged mode so that only one router would control the IP assignments.
I do not see any setting on the Netgear router that allow for a bridged mode, if anyone knows of a way to do this let me know.
I would prefer to set the 1000SW into a bridged mode, and let the Netgear control the assignments and the opening of ports, etc... This is easy to do from the routers GUI, but perhaps I am not making additional changes in the configuration that are needed as well.
The problem is that when I connect the 2Wire to the Netgear (with a normal cat-5 cable) in bridged mode, the 2Wire does not seem to pass the IP information from the ISP to the Netgear router. I guess, one question I have: Do I need a crossover cable instead of a patch cable? Does anyone have any ideas?

Ended up that the crossever cable did work! I also had to enable my Netgear router to use PPPoE and take of signing on to my DSL account. That was it!
I am not sure yet why my other router has to handle the PPPoE authentication, but it doesnt much matter. My 2Wire SBC router is now in Bridge Mode (accomplished by going to the homeportal config page --> homeportal/mdc and turning the routing capabilities OFF). All off my Email issues were also fixed by this.
My network is now as follows:
DSL Router (2Wire 1000SW) connected to a Netgear MR814v2 Wireless router via a crossover cable, with the DSL router in Bridged Mode. All my other computers now connect to the Netgear router, which now has PPPoE turned on and is accepting the public IP assignment directly from SBC now instead of aquiring a private IP from the DSL router.

I appreciate your response.
I can set my router to assign IP's in any range I wish, and right now it is doinf just that. My SBC router is assigning the 172.16.x.x range and my Netgear is assigning 192.168.x.x range. The problem with that is that it seems that I am unable to send email, and use nay kind of secure web site. I am sure this an IP issue... not resolving correctly or not fowarding the port to the proper IP. I think the SBC router is confusing my Netgear router (if that makes sense.) I will try the bridge witha crossover, and no there is not an uplink port or switch (that I have found on the Netgear).
If anyone else about uplink on the Netgear MR814v2 let me know.
On a side note: Let me hookup a crossover cable, and try it out, then I'll hook ya up the points.
