hi
  I've a problem in javascript.there is a link named Change filter.on clicking the
link a child window pops up.the variables in parent window are sent to the child
window.the child window values along with the parent window values are posted to
the servlet from the child window.the response from the servlet should be given to
the parent window instead of displaying in the child window and the child window
should get closed.but the response is displayed in the child window.

I suppose this is what you want to achieve.
parent window ->click on a link-> open child window and set variables->form submit on child window should close the window and output should be got on the parent window

for this in the form's target give window.opener and in the onsubmit event of the form call the submit of the form and window.close();
