New CDRW faulty?

Just installed a new A-Open 52x24x10 into a P-300 with over 300mb ram.
Installed it as  slave off of secondary IDE. Other CDRom was master.
It plays CD's but when I launch Nero, the PC freezes during SCSI/IDE scan. Than I have to restart. I also tried running it as slave off of primary IDE with the same results.
Note---- the CDRW was brand new in an A-Open box, but nowhere on the CDRW itself is their any mention of A-Open. Even in the device manager, it shows the device name as 52x24x10. Odd....
 Any suggestions would be great!

thanks and regards,

Have you tried the CD-RW as a master on the secondary IDE. Some software recommends the burners to be as master and the cd-rom as a slave to in the first IDE.

Yep,
       tried that too.
BTW, CDRW is an A-Open 5224. I've read on the A-open forum that their are some issues with that particular CDRW.
 Thanks,

Are you running NERO 5.5.9.12 or later?

I've discovered that the new A-open CDR-W would not run on a 300mhz AMD.
An older CD-Burner I've found worked fine. It was an Acer 10x4x48.

Thanks for the help!
