Hi,

I am looking for information on ping. By information I mean alot, does anyone know of anywhere that has a detailed description of how it works? I need to know how a server deals with a ping, what layer of the OSI stack does it come from go to etc. I also need to know how routers deal with ping.

If anyone give me a url I would be most greatful.

Thanks,

Paul

You're realing looking for info on the ICMP protocol then and it's associated tools. Here's some decent info for starters...

ICMP Protocol info:

http://www.freesoft.org/CIE/Topics/81.htm

RFC 792:

http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc792.html

Hope that helps.
