My router knocks off our broadband connection.

Hi,

I'm using a four port Mercury KOB BR4P router at home for me and my mates to use the NTL (UK) broadband service. The problem is that when one of us seems to log on, with someone else already using it, the connection is knocked off and we have to go and turn the modem and router power on and off for us to be able to use the internet at the same time. It does work fine when we do this but it is very annoying having to go through this procedure every time this occurs. Any help is much appreciated.

Kind regards,

keenanp

Try upgrading your firmware, check cables, nic's, or it might be a bad router.

What do you mean "one of us seems to log on"? I don't think you need user name/pass to use the router. Could you explain that?

Sorry, when saying "log on" I meant when one of us attempts to access the internet. You're right Oliver, we don't need passwords or user names. AtsuTech, i'm going to try to update the firmware. Hopefully i'll have some luck with that. Thanks guys.

Kind regards,

I have had similar problems with a linksys router and eventually just replaced it and all the problems went away.  this may be your best option considering the low prices...
