Infrared Monitor start failure / "IrDA Protocol" missing

Hi,
I want to connect my cell-phone to my Computer via infrared connection.
After many unsccuessful attempt, I narrowed it down the problem to the failure to start a windows service called "Infrared Monitor". This service depends on 3 services - IrDA protocol, Remote Procedure Call, Terminal Service. I have successfully started Remote procedure Call and Terminal Service, but I am having Error when starting IrDA protocol.

I checked the Event Viewer, It displayed with the following message:

The Infrared Monitor service depends on the IrDA Protocol service which failed to start because of the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

go to start button , then run then type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes.
It will repair any corrupted/missing system file. It will require the installation CD, but normally it should repai your problem.
Report back with conclusions please.

Hi kronostm, thanks for you help.

But unfortunately the sfc /scannnow command doesn't solve the problem.
After posting my last message to this forum, I have use the "repair" function from the WindowsXP installation disk, which it overwrite all the system files with the original ones, and I have now finish all the neccesary upgrades (ie6, sp1, security updates....etc)

Still, whenever i try to start the "infrared monitor" service it still gives me the same message. What kind of file could that be missing?
or could it be somekind of problem that has nothing to do with "missing file" but it kind of tricks the window system to report that the error is caused by "missing file"?

I have solved the problem.
I figure out that the files iam missing are

WSHIRDA.DLL
irda.sys
irsir.sys
SERIAL.SYS
irmon.sys

irstusb.sys
irprops.cpl
irmk7.sys
irftp.exe
irenum.sys

can i copyed them to my d:\windows\system32

then it infrared monitor service works without any problem

anyone can tell me where to find them or how to instal my irda addapter?

Just use FIND on d:\windows then you should have no problem locating those files.

I'm facing this problem for week ago. The cause of problem is uninstallation of some program using apply to all when the system ask for checking sharing component.
I try to repair WinXP using installation CD, reinstall OfficeXP, reinstall Palm Desktop, reinstall IntelliSync or even follow above suggestion. But all can not solve the problem. Then I try to uninstall Infrared device in device manager then scan for new hardware change. Suddenly, the Irda monitoring serive automatically started. Try my way, it may solve your problem.

i have the same problem,i got all the files except one,,,that being "irmon.sys" i tried everywhere on my pc but to no avail,anyone got any ideas please.thanx in advance

remington3220 .... you should ask a new question and explain the problem you have. That's the way EE works, and besides that , this Q is already closed, long time ago, and no expert will see your problem.  
You have to ask a new Q to be on top of the list.
