linux internet connection setup

hai ,

i have dell desktop on which i have two operating systems win xp pro and redhat linux 9.0. i have a  cable internet connection . now the problem is that i haev no idea how to configure my linux to access the internet . any suggestions will be very helpful .please resond bearing in mind that i have no knowledge of linux .
