Fax Via Email

I have Microsoft Shared Fax set up on MS SBS.
It has been configured to send faxes from word, etc using the fax printer, and this works well.
I was under the impression that this would enable faxes to be sent via email.
The book "Small Business Server Best Practices 2000" suggests that all that is required is to put the phone number into the 'to:' section of the email address using the format [fax:9999999].
I have tried this and have only been able to come up with a undeliverable message, the exchange server is trying to find the email address when a fax number is provided.

Can anyone help me send a fax via the email?

I don't believe I have ever been successful with this, either.  Take a look at a third party app like http://www.kerio.com/kms_home.html

I have had success with this since posting the question, but only when the machine is a server,MS SBS or MS Server 2003 allow you to add fax transport with shared fax as a service to Outlook XP.
I'm suprised that it can't be done with Windows 2000 Prof, but I do not have the time to investigate right now, I'll just install my app on a MS SBS machine.

For anyone interested,

After installing the shared fax on MS SBS I added Fax Transport services to Outlook by
Tools > View or change email accounts > Add > fax mail transport... selecting the shared fax as the printer.

Now I can send a Fax as an email through code in my application, very handy.
