OS 10.3 Font issues

I have a Power Mac G4 running OS 10.3 - it has Quark 4 and Quark 6 installed on it - also has Word for OS 10 on it - I have installed a few of my own fonts via the font book and I can see them - I open Mac Text Edit and I can see and use these fonts in that app.  When I open Quark 4 I can see and use these fonts (however, I beleive in that app it is using the font from the OS ( system folder) When I use Quark 6 or Word for Mac (native OS X apps - I cannot see my fonts that I installed) - I know they are there...I can se them in OS X text edit - but Quark 6 and OS X Word cannot see them - I spoke to Apple and they didn't know - I spoke to Quark and they didn't know either - finger pointing - maybe I am doing something wrong...any ideas?

If you want fonts to be available in both classic and native OS X mode, install them in /System Folder/Fonts. Font Book doesn't install them there, it's for OS X only.

If you purchase Font Reserve or Suitcase, that will do it too. Font Book also won't auto-activate fonts, which FR and Suitcase do as well.

I think you misunderstood me - they are already in System(9)/fonts - and available to OS9 classic apps - problem is when Iinstall them in font book and move to either user or computer they are only available to Mac OS X text edit - not my third party apps (word v.10 and quark 6) - it's like neither of these apps see the fonts but OSX text edit does

Try logging in as a new user (create one if there's not another one on your system) and see if that helps the problem. There are seemingly hundreds of things that could be wrong with them. X is much more strict on fonts than 9 was, so try installing fresh copies of the fonts as well. I don't use font book, because of it's limitations; I would also try another font manager like Font Reserve (if it's been updated for Panther) or Suitcase.
