Source code for Streaming USB Webcam Video onto the Screen?

What it is that I am looking for is a program that will read in a digital video signal through the USB port and simply show it on the screen.  I am familar with AVIcap (available on soundforge) but that's not quite doing the trick.  

Any help locating such code will be rewarded.

additionally, I need a way to overlay a generic image and then provide some primative animation.  Would you be able to suggest a good way to do this - or a good resource to learn how to do it in MS VC++?
