External Hard Drives

Does an external hard drive function in the  same manner as the C: drive.For instance can Window Media player play avi files from the external just as efficiently as from the C: drive?

It will work in the same way but you will usually have a decrease in access time.  This may be noticable if you are accessing something like an AVI file.  Depending on the type of drive, how it is connected, what else is running and the spec of your system the delay may not be noticable.

Masquer is absolutely right.  First of all, the speed of your external harddrive makes a difference.  Depending on the speed there is obviously going to be difference in performance.  Also, how its connected makes a big difference.  Depending on how, it could cause some bottleneck between your computer and the external harddrive.  Its best to always go with the internal =) from my personal experience anyways.  Its cheaper, less space required, and its most of the time faster!  Well, I hope this helps a bit!
