mouse button assignment

I carried over my IBM Scrollpoint 3 button Mouse from my old IBM to my new HP.  I intsalled the software and drivers and it works fine.  I'm running XP by the way.  The mouse suite software lets you assign different keys or tasks to the buttons, but it limits the keys and/or tasks that you can choose from.  I was wondering if it was possible to assign the 3rd button to whatever you want (possibly with a registry change).  For instance if I want the third button to be the "right shift" key (or others), can I set it up to do that?
