Frontpage adding tags suddenly!

It seems that all of a sudden, when I save a .asp file, Frontpage 2000 wants to add certain tags (like <table> or <ul>) where I don't want them.

How do I stop this?

In page options, I have it set to "Preserve existing HTML" instead of "Reformat using the rules below".

This is probably becasue of the way your asp is being coded:

Here's 2 examples:

1.
<% if error=1 %>
<body bgcolor="red">
<%else%>
<body bgcolor="blue">
<%end if%>

or
2.
<% if error=1 %>
sBgColor="red"
else
sBgColor="blue"
end if
%>
<body bgcolor= "<%response.write sBgColor%>">

The first example will be altered because FP does not read the asp, and so it thinks there's 2 body tags. The second will not, because there's only 1 body tag.

It's very likely that you're doing something similar. Depending on the code - FP may even prompt you about not viewing the page in Normal Mode becuase it will start adjusting your code.

Other than upgrading to FrontPage 2003 - which doesn't do this, you will probably need to rethink the code logic...
