Wrong type of data for listbox

I've got a form with a listbox in it. It looks up data from a view using the formulae
DbColumn("" : "NoCache"; ""; "2a. Fluids in use"; 2)
Unfortunately the data in column 2 are numbers, and so the listbox returns an error. How can I convert the values it sees into text? I'd prefer not to have to define the field displayed in column 2 as text as I want to work on the numbers elsewhere. I could create a hidden column with some code in it to convert the numbers to text and then look that one up I guess, but can't find a suitable command (only for text to number)
Thanks,
Stuart
