Guestbook

Hello all,

I would like to make a guestbook, a simple one in which I would like to have Name, e-mail, and comments. You all must be knowing what all things are there in a guestbook. So I would like to have a guestbook where everyone adds his comments and details and after pressing submit, the page comes where all the past comments are also given, not only by him but by everyone. And when ever a new comment is added it keeps on going added to the list of comments.

Thankyou,
Phud3

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

dude,
Thanks for the link. I made whatever they wanted me to make, following the steps in the tutorial. It is necessary for the webserver to have Frontpage Extensions and I guess Netfirms has it. After doing as they said (making the guestbook), I uploaded the webpage on the server and tried out the webpage on the browser. When i press submit, it goes to this address http://www.youraccount.netfirms.com/_derived/norbots.htm and this error comes saying "Page cannot be found". I don't know what to do :(. I am noob in this.
Can you help me out? :)

Thankyou,
Phud3.

Hi Phud3

I'll be trying out this Guestbook tutorial myself and while not sure why your page is not uploaded, make absolutely sure that date/time of local and remote page with guest book are identical.

Even if it's there, I notice FP messes up here and there - so delete the remote page, and then drag (copy) the local page over into the remote site in "Folder View."  (I use FP 3003, don't know what version you have, but if 2002, wherever and whatever its called where you have the local files listed on the left side and remote files on the right.

In short, sometimes one has to manually re-upload to make sure.

Maybe not much help to you here, but I've tried :)

Aha, thanks dude. Its working perfectly now. Before i used to upload the webpage manually using any FTP program and was'nt using the publishing of FP. But i got to know that you have to use FP publishing to make it work. So the guestbook is working perfectly now. No problems at all. :)

But i'll keep your point in mind too that sometimes some files have to be uploaded manually. :)

Anyway, thanks for your help.

Phud3 :)

Cool.  Glad it's working out.

Now for a little EE note -- saying this because I've spaced out doing this myself: if the issue is resolved when posting a question at these boards, one has to close the question by either accepting someone's comment as the answer or just closing the Q.

Not looking for points here, just helping you avoid future email from EE saying "Hey, man, ya gotta close your Q." :)

Take care,

Sonicsoul

PS:  By the way, if you have FP 2000 or 2002 and you're wanting to do some interactive stuff with it and have some dough coming in this holiday season, go check out the comparison charts between older and newer versions of FP.  FP 2003 has a lot more muscle compared to previous versions (not just my view, general reviews say so).

http://www.microsoft.com/office/frontpage/prodinfo/compare.mspx/

I've been using the Office Beta 2003 version with no previous version, so had to get the full version.  Best holiday deal found for me was at Amazon.com.

-- Usual retail: $199 (+ tax if state-local).  Got it for $179 minus $20 Mail-in rebate (and NO tax) = $159.  Not bad.

Not sure what FP 2003 upgrade goes for, but Amazon has a $10 Mail-in rebate for it.

Just a thought.  Useless info for you? No problemo.  Ciao.:)
