How to populate forms6i fields using the post_text_item trigger

(newbie, please don't slam to hard)
How  do I get form fields to populate  remaining fields given correct input data in a field with a post_text_item trigger on it?

Error received:
FRM-40735 POST-TEXT-ITEM unhandled exception ORA-01403
(Valid data exist within the table being queried, verified via SQL+)

Scenario:
Form table 6 row by 4 columns (using datablock blk1 with a tabular display)
Column 1 - skill_id (inputted by user, post_text_item trigger applied)
Columns 2 - 4 should be populated by data given the PL/SQL placed in editor screen

PL/SQL Logic:
SELECT col1, col2, col3
FROM tablename
     INTO blk1.field1, blk1.field2, blk1.field3
WHERE skill_id = :blk1.skill_id (inputted by user)

Environment:
- Windows XP
- Forms6i
- OracleASi

I wear a lot of hats...

Try:

SELECT col1, col2, col3
FROM tablename
     INTO blk1.field1, blk1.field2, blk1.field3
WHERE skill_id =trim(:blk1.skill_id)

OR

SELECT col1, col2, col3
FROM tablename
     INTO blk1.field1, blk1.field2, blk1.field3
WHERE trim(skill_id) =trim(:blk1.skill_id)

Thank you for your suggestion; however, it did not solve my problem.  When I show it I thought that it would work and started "kickin" myself.

I needed to solve this issue rapidly therefore a implemented a multi-block master-detail frame on one canvas (see below)

block1 (single record display as filter)
block1_1 (tabular view of data identified by block1)
block2 (tabular data based upon results from block1_1)

block1_1 and block2 are lined up side by each to appear as one table of data.

Again, thanks

Now that I have implemented a totally different solution to my problem, if someone would tell me HOW TO get a block to refresh/update itself without having to leave the canvas or change record, it would be greatly appreciated.

There is SYNCHRONIZE built in in Forms 6i which will refresh the screen.
