Enabling tooltips for ExpressQuantumGrid dxDBGrid

Hello Experts,

I have recently installed and am testing the Developer Express Quantum Grid version 3.2.2. If a grid cell is smaller than the cell contents a trimmed string is being displayed instead of the full contents and three dots ('...') are displayed at the end. I would like a tooltip showing up above the grid cell that will show the entire string when the mouse is over that cell. I've seen it done in other applications that use QuantumGrid, but haven't found a simple way to enable it.

What I would like is a simple way (perhaps a property value I might have missed) that will enable and show tooltips if data contained in a cell is larger than the cell available display space and the mouse is over that cell. If no such simple solution exist then I would increase the points for a coding solution (snippet of code) that will achieve this behavior. Just let me know how many points you feel the solution is worth and I'll increase it to that amount.

If you need more information just ask and I'll reply as soon as possible.

Sincerely,
Catalin IONESCU

My version of QuantumGrid is more recent, however I imagine that the properties are same. So, follows:

The property that you mentioned in the previous item about the ellipses is
CellEndEllipsis. You can set to true to display an ellipses when the entire text cannot be displayed within a cell.

The other property that you needs is CellHints.

Set the CellHints property to True to display a hint box when moving the mouse cursor over cells with text clipped by cell bounds. The hint box will contain the contents of the underlying cell.

If my solution couldn't apply to your component's version, I can solve this with native code. Please let me know!

Now, if you want upsize the points... ;-)

Unfortunately the version I have (3.2.2) of TdxDBGrid (and TdxDBTreeList) doesn't have CellHints nor CellEndEllipsis properties. For the ending '...' I have OptionsView/edgoDrawEndEllipsis. I didn't find an equivalent of CellHints.

If you think a native code version is required then please do so... I will gladly increase the points to what you feel compelling. However I expect that due to version differences some tweaking might be required so please bear with me for any further questions.

I am looking to receiving the native code. Please keep it to a bare minimum if possible.

Sincerely,

I sure can, but just thought why don't you send me your newer version :-) This way I can apply your earlier suggestion to enable CellHints and you can get your points faster.

If you can send it, my address is: cata@techvision.ro. I don't have any mailbox limit :-)

I've installed the version you sent and it looks great. But I didn't find in the miriad options it has the CellHints property. It has CellEndEllipsis all right, but so did the previous one. Can you tell me where CellHints property is located?

alijunior,

I want to close this question. As I already told you via MSN even the QuantumGrid version you sent doesn't have CellHints so I can't apply your suggestion. Last year you told me you're working on a solution. Are you still interested? I sure am. Let me know if I should keep the question open for a little longer. Otherwise I'll decrease the question points to 150 and assign them to you (alijunior) for your assistance.

To all: If you have an answer to this question please jump in and share your knowledge :-)

Sincerely,
