access is denied when trying to remote shut down xp computer
Hei guys
I'm trying to remore shutdown a windows xp computer
When using the remote shutdown command via the command prompt i enter the command shutdown -s -m \\computername and i get an error message "Access Is Denied." i used the ps tools also with no joy...
I am running XP Pro SP1. & the computer I wish to restart have an XP pro SP-1 also they are connected through a 8 port switch hub
i can see the other computer on the net & i have a shered resource on it (folder)
i dont have any permissions on the computer they both log in with 1 user name that as an administrator rights
note:i'v started all the services on the remote conmputer (rpc,telephoney...) & ping command works just fine

Apparenty your account does not have privleges to do this. Is your account part of the admistrator group.

Does it say Access denied to the computer of to the shutdown

Has an account been setup for you on the machine you are trying to shutdowm has that account be given the appropriate permissions to do this?

yes i have the exact same name on both computers
& given the same permissions
