Need a software Cut MPEG or Convert to ASF

Because you didn't mention if it was a MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, I'll suggest VirtualdubMOD. This can split it.

If virtualdub doesn't work, then try TMPGEnc for splitting the file.

I know some tools to convert to WMV or ASF, however they require it to be in a standard AVI format. A 850MB MPEG converted into AVI format would be huge. Possibily to big for you harddrive.

Forgot to mention, when using Virtualdub. Go to "video" then compression and pick an appropriate compression. If you don't, then it will save it as an uncompressed avi, which will be quite large.
