Problem with syncing two macs over .mac

Hi experts,

I've been trying to sync my address book and iCal via .mac by iSync.  I've followed the instruction to register my 2 macs under my .mac account.  After registration is done, i start to sync with .mac one by one.  My newly purchased powerbook synced without any porblems because basically it has got nothing in it.  But, when i sync my old iBook, it said "Monday, 17 November 2003 4:17
Can't synchronize contacts to Steven Chang: device is not available
Can't synchronize calendars and To Do items to Steven Chang: device is not available" in an alert dialogue.

What really is going on here??

Also, what is the alternate way to sync two macs beside using .mac account?

Thank you

Sounds like your old iBook has some issues. Like maybe the place some files need to reside doesnt exist, or its a different version of the OS, etc.

Hi weed,
Thanks for replying!

What files would that be??

>>or its a different version of the OS
Yes, my iBook has got OS X 10.2.8 installed whereas my powerbook is running Panther.  Would that be the problem?

Thank you

Any directories, etc that have been moved etc might cause that sort of error.

Different versions of the OS COULD do it but i havent seen anyone with problems yet. If possible get them both to Panther.

Hi weed,

I've managed to sync them via .mac and isync now, but my iBook still displays such message.  How come?

Thank you

Hi weed,

>>it synced but still displayed an error?
Yes.  By the way, on my iBook's isync its got my Palm listed on it, whereas on my Powerbook i have not yet included this device on isync.  So, every signle time when i sync with .mac on my iBook, it asks me to choose whether to cancel the operation or sync with out Plam OS devices.

Thank you

Ahh hah. You cant sync to the palm if its not attached. That could be why the error is happening.

When iSync does its sync operation it checks for devices to sync to and from. It's a 2 way sync.
