Text in Photoshop

I've been doing some work with Photoshop, and was wondering if there was a feature that could do the following.

I have a multi-colored background on which I'm trying to add some white text. The problem is, that when part of the canvas turns white, my text is not readable (white on white). Is there a way to tell Photoshop to darken or make just that part on which the text appears a different color?

Thanks in advance :)

Short answer, nope. You could try adding a VERY slight black outer glow to the text though. That might help make it readable.
