System Performance Problem
Hi,
i have windows 2000 server and professional in my network.
out of which the server and some workstations are very slow.. i mean when i start the server it takes approx. 10 min to prompt for user name and password, then after providing uid and pwd it takes approx. 5-10 mins to display desktop and allow the user to work.
i have updated norton anti virus software.
i don't think it's a problem of virus bcz i regularly scan the server and workstations.
but when i try to check the system partition using drive->properties->tools-> checknow procedure it gives error that direct access to drive can't possible.
so it neither allow me to check nor defragment the system partition(c:).
Service status...
2-3 explorer.exe running
2-3 svchost.exe running
2 DLLHOST.exe running(out of which i able to delete one periodically and other one remains as it is)
i have already checked with fixweltch,Fixmimail tool from norton there are nothing in my system..
kindly suggest me how to improve the performance of my server and workstations.
Thanks/Regards
Deepak

Please close this question bcz i solved it myself.
my system was affected by w32.welchia.worm virus. which generally occupy more than 90 % of cpu and also sends junk bytes to network and make the network down.
and also my system was affected by SQL Server bug that's "Slammer Virus" that i rectified my installing the SQL patches.
Thanks/Regards

>>backup ur registry first before u try this,in case ur registry corrupt unexpectally u can restore it back
Start>Run>regedit
Find the following branch:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software
Don't delete anything you are not sure about though or you could end up with probems.
Also look in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Sofare>
but note that these settings affect all users of the computer, not just the one currently signed in.
