Unable to install the panasonic UJ-815-B DVD combo dirve in a DELL INSPIRON 8000 laptop (running XP Pro + SP1 , P3~ 1Ghz, Bois ver.A21). System does not boot after replacing the existing DVD-ROM drive with the panasonic drive. We tried three different ones in the store (brand new + same model) but they didn't work. It's difinitely not a connection problem.
Need to know whether this drive will ever work properly with this DELL laptop.

This drive has it's cable select pins inside the 50 pin connector and is probably conflicting with your HD as master.

It should be set for cable select but if your dell doesn't support it, there may be firmware to change it to slave.
