SSL and IPs

Quick 250 pointer.

Can you set up multiple SSL sites on 1 IP? Or do you need a separate IP for each SSL site?

Any links to back up claims would be great.

Thanks in advanced.

An alternative for you is that you can use different ports for the sites

https://www.site1.com:443
https://www.site2.com:444

however that is ugly, and will mean that a lot of corporate users will not be able to get to site2 (sys admins will restrict to only common ports)

Here is Microsoft saying a big no you can't

No, it can not be done

If you only have one IP address and you want multiple sites then you are going to use a technology like host headers - problem is that header is encrypted until it reaches the web server, however the server will not know what virtual instance to send it to ... a catch 22. Typically the server will just go to the first virtual instance which will probbably not be what you want. I'll find some back up however this has been discussed in these forums before

Thanks for your help fz2hqs.

I was aware of the ports option, but like you say about the corporate users, its not a clean way.
