Ive found countless examples of packet sniffers n stuff but nothing seems to be catching traffic from other computers on my home network here.

Im beginning to think that since i have a router that the examples that say they do get network traffic dont because of that very reason.

Do any of you know specifically any way i can get a hold of traffic accrossed a network the is connected using a router?

or is this impossible and i need a hub/switch?

Do you have the sniffer on a segment that can see all traffic? Are all the examples you tried code examples?Have you tried something like ethereal to see what it picks up?

i havnt tried an actual program yet, all the examples were code because i had to get an idea of what i needed to do.  i got a contract to write some software that watches http traffic on a network.  They are currently using some software that does work but ive come to the conclusion that the computer the software resides on is in a position to recieve all the network traffic.

My computer at home is just on another port of a 4 port smart router/wan server thingy.
