XP connection problems

Hi

I've switched from using a PC with windows 2000 installed to a laptop with XP Home Edition on. This has caused Dreamweaver to behave like a maniac.

I initially had MX installed, but got javascript errors every time I tried to do anything. Rather than reinstall (the recommended remedy) I tried the demo of MX2004. When I tried to connect to a site on a remote server, it worked for a while but then I started to have problems. I had to keep changing the site's FTP settings, and it would either retrieve only the root folder, a seemingly random assortment of about half of the folders and files, or just give me a 'server not responding' message. I tweaked the pasv ftp/firewall options but nothing works. After a couple of days of this I gave up and decided to reinstall MX, but I'm now having similar problems. While I can connect to the site most of the time, when I try and put the file it either jams and then shuts down with a 'program is not responding' message and a popup from Microsoft offering to send an error report, or it just says 'there was no response from the server while transferring the file whatever.asp'. If I go into the site definition and test the connection it works fine. Nobody else connecting to the same remote server and site has any problems at all so I'm starting to suspect that maybe Windows XP Home Edition is not compatible with Dreamweaver MX? Does anyone know if this is the case, or if there is anything I can try to get MX working?

Alternatively, are there any applications that don't have so many FTP problems (I understand they're fairly common with all versions of Dreamweaver) and that are definitely compatible with the truly evil XP Home Edition?

Thanks,

M

I have all the updates installed now and it still cocks up. It either stops responding completely and closes, or it tells me I can't put the file (it tries 3 times then offers me the option to skip that file). This is the FTP dialogue I'm getting in MX when I try to put the file, in case it's any help - the file I'm putting is navigation.asp, so I dont know what the DWDDXX1.DDD or _mm stuff is about:

Still not solved the problem entirely, but thanks for your help anyway. If I keep changing the FTP settings it does get there in the end, although currently I can only connect on an internal IP.

Time to get a copy of InterDev I think :-)

Never used DW in any flavour to upload files, been withit since version 1. Not much help I know but why not use Cute or Smart FTP (Free) for your FTP needs?
