I am writing a program that requires users to be able to create CDs "on the fly". Is there a way to create a CD write dialog with java so that the user does not have to leave the program and use 3rd party software to write the cd?

You need to learn JNI 1st to interact with your cd writer :
     http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/native1.1/

It will be hard but you can by JNI

Hope it helps . . .
