Basic uses asc() to get the ascii number of a character.

I have looked through 5 books and can't find out how to do it in php.

1.  How do I do it?

2. Is there a good language reference on line for php?

1. im not sure this is possible
2. http://www.php.net (the official php site) has an online functions list (also available in downloadable format) and it has all the other documentation there too, hould have everything you need
