What's the best way to determine whether input is numeric?

I'm working on a spreadsheet and when a quantity is entered I want to grab the data however, I want to ignore anything other than numeric input. What's the best way to determine whether input is numeric?

If Not IsNumeric(thenumber) Then MsgBox "Error, not numeric."
