auto shutdown when press shutdown

my computer can auto shutdown when i use windows 98, but at win2000 pro,win2000 server and win xp it doesn't enable.I don't like the screen:"It now safe to turn off your computer". I have read a tips for adjust that problem but now i forgot. Please show me! Thankz

i have installed lastest service packs. but ... it still can't auto shutdown

im confused,, which OS are you having trouble with?? If you are getting the " its now safe to turn off your computer" screen and you dont want it, this has to do with the BIOS. Some older BIOSs will cause this screen to come on rather than actually fully powering down your computer.  The bad news is that you will have to  reinstall the OS in order to get the " its now safe to turn off your computer" to go away after you upgrade the BIOS.  This is of course alot of work and hassle just to bypass having to hit the power button.
