From within your VB project goto
Project
Select add File
This alows you to add a Related Document

Adds items such as Microsoft Excel worksheets or Microsoft Word document to the Related Documents folder in the Project Explorer.

Hi V12003

You can't open a resource file to view it in the same way that you could open say a form file. The resource file is used as a storage area for holding large strings, pictures etc which can be called from your program. Generally it is not useful to try to access a resourcefile created by a third party unless you have information about it's contents. When creating programs you may wish to keep the executable file smaller by not fillling it with large graphic or data files etc. By placing these into a resource file your program can remain small (and therefore faster) whilst drawing upon the resource file as necessary to load in larger items.

This is not really the appropriate place to teach you how to use resource files however I understand your difficulty in getting to grips with  this and have included a link to the Microsoft site to get you started.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/vbcon98/html/vbconusingresourcefiles.asp

There are also a number of programs on www.planetsourcecode.com if you need an example to study, try this one:
