Can I Use HIMEM.SYS To Switch To Protcted Mode?

I have doubts that HIMEM.SYS has functionality to switch to protected mode - it is memory manager.
It allows you to receive Extended memory WITHOUT switching to protected mode.
INT 15h, AH = 89h should allow you to do this.
However, I suggest you to do this "manually":
