Action Scripting not working on dynamic text

I am trying to make a symbol of a text box which has dynamically text from a external textfile.  This I do by loadvariablenum() and in the textbox _root.var1.

No probs.  

But I can seem to make it obtain an alpha.  I mean, I can make the symbol alpha set to 22%, but it doesnt take affect.

Any Ideas?

You have to embed font outlines to apply alpha effect.

Thank you, but I dont have the same char options as the ones your tut show.  Mine made me select specific ranges.   Still works.  Thanks

Yeah, with the last update flashmx2004 changed its embedding options (not updated movies yet.. :) )
