Multi-language Character Sets (PHP & MySql)

Hi,

I've read Mysql 4.1 to see how to set the charater set values at database, table and even column level, when working with multi language characters.

Very simply, can PHP handle passing over different character sets to MySql e.g. insert arabic characters, then insert ISO 8859-1 (western) characters.

Best wishes

have you checked out php's utf8_encode() and utf8-decode()?

utf8_encode() -- encodes an ISO-8859-1 string to UTF-8 unicode
http://us3.php.net/manual/en/function.utf8-encode.php

utf8-decode() -- converts a string with ISO-8859-1 characters encoded with UTF-8 to single-byte ISO-8859-1.
