developing fax applications...

sir,

I am developing a IVRS software in VB in which I want to add fax functionality.
However, I am not able to understand the fax procedure and I also don't know the fax functions that windows uses.

I have windows2000 server family as O/S.

Please guide me that how can I develop such application? Are there any controls or functions available in VB.

In our business, faxing confirms is critical to back office operations. Currently, I have a couple of fax machines set up which handle the load of all trade confirms.

To accomplish the automation of fax confirms, this is the way I went:

1) We had some fax machines which handle SMTP requests. These machines act as fax gateways. For example, the machine takes in an SMTP mail message with a TIFF file attached and the phone number in the TO: field.

2) I created a VB app that polls for new fax confirms, converts any new confirms from ASCII format to TIFF format, and SMTP's the request to the fax machine. Also, the file name of the confirm contains the phone number, so the program has to parse the phone number from the file and use it for the TO: field of the SMTP message.

We currently are using Panafax fax machines.
