"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

There is function for this in the curl library.  I have this installed and typed libcurl to be directed to type 'man curl_easy_perform, which gives a little on the function, such as (cutting and pasting)

 #include <curl/curl.h>

       CURLcode curl_easy_perform(CURL *handle);

I would love to give more details but sourceforge has had a "in maintenance, come back shortly" page on itself all day.
