About document shown much too often

Hi,

we are using a standardized "About" document, which is showing values looked up from setup (profile) documents, which reside in the same database. The setting in the database properties is to show the about each time the document has changed. But it seems that the "About" document is shown even when no change has been made to the design elements or even the setup documents. The "About" is shown almost every day, but is only shown once when you open the application twice in a row. Strange, eh?

My question is how the Notes client does determine when the "About" has been changed and of course if there is any way to avoid this behaviour.

Thanx for any hint,

Dirk

I think you are falling in a recursive loop of modification times. When one user opens the profile values are retrieved and stored in the about db doc, which eventually changes the modified time continously that is why user keeps seeing the doc at startup.

If you are particular about showing profile values, then include that as a view document and paste it inside the about database doc as doc link. If user wants to see he can retrieve it or else he can just leave it. It is basically desing limitation of your app..

Hi Hemanth, thanks for your reply!

I have checked and at least the "Last modified" date in the designer does not change why I access the "About" document. Why should Notes "cache" dynamic data in the "About" document, just imagine information is based on the Username or a role?! And how could users save changes, they are just authors and not designer...

Or is something going completely different in case of the "About" doc?

Best regards, Dirk

THat is right, About doc displayed only when Modified Date is changed !

But I had this kind of problem similar to your design and I don't recollect what I have done to fix it..Let me see if I can gather some information

BTW, What is your notes client and server versions ?

Did you check this tech note already ? http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=899&uid=swg21110108

It seems to be a bug and little close to what you describe.

Now I remember disabling the modified option from launch for my app.
