Corrupted Win 98 Start button

The "Start"  button often gets corrupted, usually after a long period of running with coloured pixcels which sometimes resemble the colours of a background scxreen.  Sometimes when I click on Start the veretical column of the left of the pop up menu is similiarly corrupted.  These two symptoms are not necessarily present at th esame time but they can be.  I think th eproblem started when I fitted a Geforce graphics card and ran "Easyfly".  My system tends to crash about once per day; I run McAfee Viruscan all the time.

Hello Avhation,

Sounds like you are definately having troubles with your video driver.  Is there screen corruption in any other programs, such as games, IE, MS Office, etc? Have you upgraded your driver recently?

Do you have Direct X 9 installed?  Check your Direct X version by going to the Start > Run > Dxdiag  Direct X is required for games and other intensive video applications for Windows.  If you don't have version 9, then go to http://www.microsoft.com/directx to get it.

Once Direct X 9 is installed, head over to http://www.nvidia.com and get the latest driver for you card and install it.

Thanks.  Checked Direct X and found it up to v9.  Went to the nvidia website and loaded up Geforce driver for Win 98 (perhaps to a later standard than the existing, and that seems to have done the trick. Thanks again.
