Covert AI to DXF or DWG

I have an AI file that I created from paths using Photoshop 7.  I need to convert it to DXF or DWG.  I own Photoshop and Autocad, but not Adobe Illustrator.  Does anyone know of a freeware or shareware program that I can accomplish this with.  Next option, a very cheap program that does this.  Im also willing to email this file, if someone wishes to perform this conversion.

Thanks,

Bill

Well, in theory you should be able to open the AI with Acrobat since AI files are PDF based. Therefore, any app that would deal with PDF files would handle it. Now, as for something that would convert it to DWG/DXF that's another matter. Versiontracker.com would be a good start.

Hey Weed.  I need the final product to be dwg or dxf.  I dont have AI installed.  Does it have the ability to save or export to DXF.  If so, I can just use a demo version to do this.  If it doesnt do this natively, I think there may be a plugin on the site you mentioned.  Funny, I can export to AI from both AutoCAD and Photoshop, and Im sure AI can import a dxf, so why is this transformation so difficult.
It's difficult because you dont have Illustrator. I dont think the demo is gonna cut it. Again, you might be able to import the AI format into anything that deals with PDFs and export to DXF from there.
Why wont the demo cut it.  Its the full version except it stops working after 30 days.  Weed, I know you have illustrator.  Getting back to the previous question, does AI have the ability to save or export to DXF without a plugin.

Your right weed.  The demo wont do it.  The full version will.  I had the person who made the file export it for me and after a couple of tries, we had success.

Just for the record, in addition to using Adobe Illustrator for this,  Microsoft Visio can also do the same thing, which kind of surprised me.

Im going to give you the points weed, because you took the time to work with me on this.

Thanks,

Bill
