Urgent: Easy & General Crystal Reports Questions

I have a few general questions about Crystal Reports. Right now, I have installed CR4.6, which came with Visual Studio 6 Professional.  I am trying to integrate reports into a Visual Basic (SP5) application.

1.     I thought I read somewhere that a free upgrade is available.  Is there a free upgrade, and if so where?  The CR site doesn’t show the software that is older than v.8.

2.     I also thought that you can connect to a data environment command object within VB with CR, but I don’t see that option when selecting SQL/ODBC type.  How can I get this option?

3.     CR4.6 is asking for a serial number when I launch it.  On one operating system I entered a number I found on the web and it seems to work fine.  On another operating system I just close the window and it also seems to work fine. Sense CR is included with VB, shouldn’t a serial number be included too? Where can I get it?

4.     I plan on deploying this application to multiple machines, do I have to worry about licensing?  Will the report be able to run on every instance of the application at the same time?

5.     I need to build two pretty easy reports by yesterday, is there anything else anyone can offer that may make my life easier?

Thanks to everyone!

Refer to the other question on this same topic.

There is a free trial version of CR9 available.  It gives you 30 days of use and is somewhat crippled in its capabilities.  If you own CR9 there is a free edition of Crystal Enterprise 9 available.

I am not sure about CR4.6.  With later versions, you do need a license to distribute the applications that run Crystal Reports.  By purchasing the Developer or Advanced editions of Crystal the license is included.  If you purchase Standard or Professional you cannot distribute the applications.
Also CR 8.5 and CR9 have libraries that require additional licenses.  Generally you won't be using these features but you need ot be aware of the requirement.  In addition under certain circumstances you may need to purchase what Crystal calls a broadcast license.

This should help you build the application

>>3 - I have not heard of that problem.

>>2 - I don't know, I haven't used CR4.6.

2 --> I used Crystl32.ocx to connect to reports made with Crystal reports. That way it was pretty easy to connect datasource and to make selection formulas and display records in report.
With version 9 there is no ocx component to use and 8.5 component does not work with 9.0 reports (bummer). Crystals is suggesting to use RDC component instead. Unfortunately there ase some problems with RDC activeX and delphi so I can not use version 9.0.

3  --> It is a long time I used 4.6  but CR asked code from me too. I did not care about that since all worked fine after window was closed.

Thanks for the help!  I've split the points between you both, I hope that is fair.  I'll see what I can do with the ocx.
