cant delete more than 1 email at a time

We have a Microsoft Exchange 5.5 sp3 server with a mixed enviroment of Outlook versions. When anyone tries to delete more than 1 email at a time OUTLOOK locks up and the only way to get out of it is to end task...I dont see any knowledge base on this. Has anyone experienced this? PLEASE HELP....Thanks in advance

so your saying this is due to the database being fragmented? sorry there wasnt a explaination with possible solution...

The first link is for defragmentation.  The second gives the many uses of ESEUTIL.  It will defrag, repair, and quite a bit more.
If this were only on one system I would suggest a Detect and Repair on that Outlook.  Since it sounds like a universal problem the source should be the Exchange Server.  Maybe ESEUTIL will find and fix that problem.  Be sure you have a good backup of the ES database in case it gets trashed (that is a slim, but possible result of using utils such as this).

that didnt work...still cant delete more than 1 email at a time...If this helps I put up a new exchange server....if I am homed on the old server I can delete all I want....if I move my email box back to the new server I cant delete more than 1 at a time....I loaded SP4 for exchange on the new box also...

In looking at this I have seen two suggestions.  One of them is ESEUTIL.  If you have looked at all command line options of ESEUTIL and have not been successful, you can try Exchange's Optimizer program.
