I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

XML will have difficulty breaking down Pagemaker documents that contain a mixture of graphics and text.

One way that is not the neatest and can in some circumstances lead to some interesting end results (lol) is to convert the Pagemaker document to RTF and then convert the RTF to XML. What you finish up with a disproportionately large but usually works.

I have to ask. Why do you want to convert Pagemaker to XML? What is the business objective behind the requirement? If we knew these we may be able to suggest alternative ways of achieving the desired benefit.

yes, we figured that out, but it is far from perfect. That's why we were looking for some other solution.
We have a lot of docs that were made in PM. Now we want to get this content online, plus we want to be able to deliver content on demand: only these items someone needs in a single pdf file.

Adobe and others now have tools to generate PDF's on the fly. I would consider converting all the PM files to PDF's and then when the user selects the items they wish delivered use one of the tools to concatenate or otherwise merge the selected PDF's into a single PDF for content delivery. For converting PM to PDF the easiest is probably to install one of the many PDF printer drivers where any application can print to a device it thinks is a printer but is in fact a piece of software that intercepts the print and saves to disk as a PDF.

I am sure you have probably already considered these alternatives, if so please post those ideas you have tried and rejected. In the mean time I will try and come up with some other ideas. I will be offline for most of the next week as I will be in the Scottish Highlands fixing up an old crofter's cottage. I will check my email when I return and see if I can add anything.

Good Luck.
