I cant get to the Internet (win98)

Hi all experts!

I have installed a D-link dfe-690txd fastethernet card on my laptop Compaq Armada e700, but I cant get to the internet.

Previously it was using modem to connect to theinternet and it worked fine, but when I want to connect through LAN I cant get online.

what can be wrong?

Go to device manager . Right-click on the ethernet card.go to properties and check to see if
the hardware runs fine

Have you done the LAN connection correctly ? check to see if you static IP (if yes, manually configure it correctly)

Go to control panel --> network connections --> LAN connection . Right-click it .go to properties.
enable tcp/ip . go to properties and check IP address

Are you connecting via a router ? If yes, try directly connecting from the LAN port (on wall) or from modem ..

hi

chk the following

1.  ethernet card installed and configured properly
2.  TCP/IP  settings of the ethernet Card   like ip address- subnetmassk-gateway ip  
3.  if u r using a proxy server specifyy iin the browser -options-connections-lan settinngs

check by piinnging tto the router  from ur pc and some site see iif it resolves if not recheck ur config

I tried all that, still cant go to the internet. Can there be something wrong with my laptop? or is this totally software?
