200 MB .AVI to .GIF conversion
I have this big 200 MB avi video file and I want to be able to convert it to a gif even if it takes days, so that I can cut out a few frames and animate a character. It is in a DivX/Xvid codec, so how can I do this?

I think you can extract all of the frames with Infranview. yuo might also want to look up binka nd smacker rad video tools. You can use that to extract all of the frames to gif format.
p.s. you'll need alot of hard disk space :)
might be better to extract to other image formats first like BMP, TIFF, or JPEG and then compile into an animated GIF with software unless the AVI video had only 256 colors in it to begin with.
Desktopmod,
Very easily. Use virtualdub. Load the file, then do "save as image sequence." it will export each frame to a .gif file.

Oh, you can also clip the show, so you don't have to output EVERY frame. Just use the start/end arrows, and delete the frames you don't need.
Virtualdub is the simplest way to do this - it couldn't be any easier.
