Outlook 2003 550 relay not permitted

I have upgraded to Outlook 2003 and can no longer send mail outside of our domain mail address. We do not have an Exchange server but do have a firewall. All settings for the firewall look to be fine. Receiving e-mail if fine. This is critical as I depend on e-mail a great deal.

After the upgrade did you have to "reconfigure" Outlook 2003 with your email account data?

Is the mail server you are trying to send thru the same one you are connecting to the Internet with?

Do you have Outlook Express configured with the same account settings, and if so does the problem occur there as well.  (if not try configuring it with the same settings and trying it)
PS the Mail Relay error doesn't have to do with your firewall.  The messages are getting out, they are getting to your SMTP server, and it is rejecting the message(s).

Yes it was reconfigured
Yes it is the same server as the Internet
No there is no Outlook Express set up but I will try it. I can send mail by going to web based e-mail like mail2web.

do you use outlook exchange or pop or imap?

in outlook express properties of email acounts -> servers tab there is my server require atontication

did you check?? check it and try to send mails

I agree that you need to check your outgoing SMTP authentication.  If that is correct, I have found there are cases that certain domains are rejecting messages and that error may just be coincidental with your upgrade.  Check out services such as DynDns.org's MailHop Outbound service which you can purchase the use of an SMTP relay server account for sending mail, and seeing if you still have the same problem when using their service.
