No what I mean was if there is any driver problem or hardware failure , then youwould get a  blue screen which contains the error messages .If you can note the error message then it would be easy for us to solve the issue.. By default it is set to restart automatically when there is any serious error. By what I have said , it will not restart if you get any serious failure

so if i download from 1 k/s - 14k/s its ok i guess, but when its more, sometimes Reboot and sometime, its act like an angel, as its nothing wrong in it even if it goes 22k/s

Commented:
Reboots are often a result of hardware problems, not software.

1st, look at your cpu temperatures.  It may be that your cpu is just too hot, causing reboots.  Proper cooling is essential, meaning thermal paste or pad and a good quality heatsink/fan unit that is mounted properly.  If any of these elements aren't there. . .  then you can reboot.

2nd, RAM is a very common problem when it comes to reboots.  But generally RAM issues give you blue screens or illegal operations.

3rd, Power supply is also a possible culprit and can cause rebooting.

4th, your motherboard itself.

If it's not a software issue the hardware issues are likely the cause.

Also, if it only happens when uploading / downloading, try either reinstalling your NIC drivers or installing another NIC card (they're cheap) in the system.

Author

Commented:
well, I changed the power supply & the fan for the processor, cause i thought it was from it, and the reboot still resume, about the ram or motherboard, how can i know ?
Glen A.IT Project Manager

Commented:
Unfortunately the only real way to tell is to swap in some 'known-good' ram into your system.  If it solves the problem, it's not RAM.

Alternately, you can put your RAM into a known-good system and see if that system exhibits problems. . .

Same with the motherboard, unfortunately the only way to know is by replacing it.

Author

Commented:
aha, well I guess I can't do this, cause I don't have another motherboard suite the processor & this RDRAM. and even my friends have another type of configuration that doesn't accept replacing.
anyway until now I am still testing the pc, if you get any other possible idea, please do reply me with it.

Commented:
You say you replaced the PSU. Was it a higher wattage and a "Good-Brand" like Antec, Enermax... etc?

Is your modem USB? If you say that it only happens during downloads, IE Stress on your modem (If its USB). This stress will cause power fluctuations and can cause reboots. Make sure you get some more Wattage on the PSU if you havn't already.

If not, remove say all your CD/DVD/RW Power Cables from the drives and try again. If it still reboots this rules out a power problem.

Author

Commented:
well I don't think its from the power supply because I changed it with Good-Brand, 520W.

and the DSL/Router is Connected vie LAN.
Glen A.IT Project Manager

Commented:
Well, if I were you I'd start calling local repair places and see if someone can test your RAM and or motherboard inexpensively . . .

Commented:
yeah, sounds like RAM must be the answer... Have you tried going into the BIOS and loading Fail Safe Defaults?

Author

Commented:
well if its RAM then why does the problem appears ONLY while I am connecting to the internet (downloading/uploading) ?!

and if I check with a local repair shop, how do I know its a good RAM or not, because it doesn't REBOOT all the time, I explained in the above comments when (please read it), as its random time.

The conclusion from the repair shops they said maybe the PSU, I changed it With what I wrote, They said maybe the Fan I changed it, well if it the motherboard or ram I can't change it until I am sure, because its expensive, and nowadays its become unavailable that much cause of the DDR & Dual DDR tech.

Commented:
Well then. i guess were all stumped... u tried a different modem?

Author

Commented:
before the DSL/Router, I tried Satellite(PCI Card) one way, and the same problem was & Still.

Commented:
tried running your Modem Cable through a surge protector?

Author

Commented:
what do you mean ?

Commented:
Buy a surge protector from your hardware store. Usually around £15 GBP. Make sure its one that you can put an RJ-11 Cable through ie your phone line cable, if it uses that. It'll be a multisocket so get one with enough plugs for your PC.

Just put all PCs plugs in and the Phone Line RJ11 Cable in and try again.

I dont know if you use RJ11 for your modem, so this is just a guess really. Basically if this doesn't work you have just saved £100s should your house get hit by lightning.

Just another theory. But if your PSU is functioning fine with correct voltages and works perfect until you go onto net. It could be there is a charge comming into your PC through the phone line and its upsetting your PSU and causing the CPU to reset.

Like I said, if it dont work, nvm, its saved ur PC parts from being fried if u are unlucky enough in the future. But this will also rule out the PSU once and for all.

Commented:
Before you do that, if you have a VIA motherboard, go to http://www.viatech.com/ and download the latest VIA 4 in 1s.

Or if its KT7, then go into the Bios and enable "Enhanced Chipset Performance".

Commented:
Mite also be a silly question, but do you have a firewall and an anti-virus installed?

Also, do you use a program called Roxio by any chance?

Author

Commented:
yes Im using Roxio 6.2, Norton Anti virus, and ZoneAlram, and the DSL/Router has a built-in Firwall
whats up with them !?

Commented:
Hey, I think I found your problem!

Goto this address:
http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.cfm?catid=13&threadid=44078

I quote:
"I had a similar problem when using roxio.I eneded up getting an updated version of aspi32.sys file from roxio companies website.Solved the reboot problem.Don't have a link.Sorry. "
"today I havent been in roxio and it hasnt crashed once. "
"So the culprit that causes your system to reboot is roxio, heard that this software has some issue. Here's a link for you to update your roxio. You could also choose to install nero rather than roxio, since this program is giving you problem. Just a query, where did you get to find out that your system reboot has to do with roxio? "
The link mentioned is: http://www.roxio.com/en/support/software_updates.jhtml

Also, have you installed the XP Blaster Virus Patch? Cos that only shuts down your PC when you connect to the net? There is info on that thread above for downloading stinger.exe to remove it, and you may wanna do a google search for "msblast.exe patch" and install the update.

Author

Commented:
well, I wrote my version of roxio is 6.2, the latest update from roxio ( the problem was before & after the update ) so i don't think its from roxio program, except if you are sure of a spacific file & how to solve it ?

about XP blaster, it shows a count down message before the reboot, & i think its one minute(thats what my friend has), but I've no message.

Commented:
Yeah, but that depends on your options.

Do you have the patch or not?

As for Roxio, I really have no idea... Can you uninstall it for me and see if that solves it?

Author

Commented:
( the problem was before & after the update )
I'll uninstall it, and see if it solve it or not.

by the way, Im not letting Roxio starts at windows start up, i know all my programs start up, I removed any start file in registry, except windows/system32 I didn't delete any file, maybe theres a file of roxio.

Commented:
maybe there is. Do a search on google.com for YourUninstaller2003 and find a free download/shareware version.

Use that to uninstall Roxio and it'll remove all the reg files as well.

Author

Commented:
maybe from one week ago until now my pc didn't Reboot, maybe cause what "sunray_2003" said to remove the auto restart, but a blue screen appears, (i didn't see it before in win XP) tell me

yeah its killing me, but its killing more if i don't know how to fix it.
don't you agree with me ?

try going to the Linksys site. Download the correct Driver for your OS. Then make XP use it.

Right Click My Computer>Hardware>Devices>Find your Device>Driver, etc

LinkSys LNE 100TX v4
I downloaded the file from linksys.com and I tried to update it, but I couldn't.

I check the disk that came with the LAN card, its v4.1, I think its the latest version as on the website, any I also tried to update it, but it did not, maybe because theresn't any folder for winXP, its only for win2k and older, but the box said support win xp!

Commented:
I'll do some searching and I'll see what I can find.

Bear with me.

Commented:
Here are some XP or all Windows Compatable Drivers.

http://www.network-drivers.com/drivers/23/23645.htm
http://www.network-drivers.com/drivers/34/34861.htm

Try those (I think 2nd one is a driver, although I aint sure)

Commented:
Your Network Card itself could be the overal problem!

http://www.sudhian.com/showfaqs.cfm?fid=7&fcid=19
"If this occurs under WindowsXP and is related to internet activity, it may be because your NIC is not supported correctly. One user reported continual instabilities like this using a Linksys LNE100TX(v4.1) card, until it was replaced. "

Do you have access to another card, could you borrow one or buy one off a friendly local PC store and give it back if it doesn't solve the problem? Make sure its a different brand though like D-Link and make sure its XP compatable.

We may be getting closer to solving this m8.

Dan.

And if that doesnt work and the above drivers dont work, then try these drivers:

I'll try what you said, + borrow a LAN card from my friend, it may be the problem, so I'll reply you tomorrow.

hmm I'm lost actually...
when I had a SAT card, that time I didn't have a LAN card, and I'm not sure but I think the SAT card was placed into the same slot (PCI) the LAN card now.
anyway I am not sure of that, cause it was a very long time, I thought it may help.

thank you, you are helping.
I hope you will not give-up like the others ;)
thanks again.

Commented:
Really, i dont have a clue what I'm talking about ;) (only jkin).

I just search google and I am damn good at it. If it aint the LAN card, I have a few other ideas stuffed up my sleeve.
The only reason I think it may be the LAN card is cos u say it only crashes when connected to the IntermaWeb, and i have been reading stories about LinkSYS cards that like crashing computers :D.

You mite wanna try a different PCI slot if u got one as well.
