if u hav made a bootable floppy boot using the floppy
when "boot :" promt appears type

this will boot u as single user(used for maintainence purpose)
u'll be presented with a prompt
sh#
type     passwd           press enter
u'll be asked for entering new root password and confirm it
do it
reboot (after removing floppy)
u can now use ur new root password
