I'm trying to make a terrainsystem to my 3d-game, where I read the colorvalues of the pixels in a bmp-file in order to determine the height of each vertex in the world coordintes. But I have no idea how to read the bmp's pixels. I have read the information on the bmp's like this:

FILE *fp;
BITMAPINFOHEADER ihd;
BITMAPFILEHEADER fhd;

bool read_bmp()
{
//File header
fread(&fhd, sizeof(BITMAPFILEHEADER), 1, fp);
//Info header
fread(&ihd, sizeof(BITMAPINFOHEADER), 1, fp);
// and to read the bitmap pixels...
}

How to go on from here? I think I'll be using a 256-color bitmap.

...and my own stuff. fn is the file name.

CBitmap bitmap;

BOOL CPicartDoc::OnOpenDocument(LPCTSTR fn)
{
      HBITMAP hbm;
      int r = 0;

        // remove LR_MONOCHROME if you dont need it
      hbm = (HBITMAP) LoadImage(AfxGetInstanceHandle(), fn, IMAGE_BITMAP, 0, 0, LR_LOADFROMFILE|LR_MONOCHROME);

      if (!hbm) myApp.MessageBox ("Cannot load bitmap.");
      else
      {
            if (bitmap.DeleteObject()) bitmap.Detach();

            bitmap.Attach(hbm);

            r = 1;
      }

      return (r);
}
