SMTP problems - SMTPSVC 4000

This is driving me crazy

I have a server that is supposed to mail about 2500 people on a semi-regular basis.  However, the site managers have now blocked all outgoing port25 connections, so I have to go through their server to send mail.

I have changed my mail settings to send mail to staff-out.domain.co.uk, but I am getting errors like:

Message delivery to the remote domain 'sol.co.uk' failed for the following reason: The remote server did not respond to a connection attempt.

on SMTPSVC Error ID 4000

This sounds like it is still trying to send email from my server, rather than the server routing mail out of the main site server.  Can anyone suggest why this is happening, and how to fix it?

ok, so it turns out that someone hid the section that need setting rather deep in an obscure place.  For anyone who needs this information, you need to....

Open IIS console
Right click on your "Defauls SMTP Virtual Server" and select properties
Click on the delivery tab
Click on the "Advanced" button at the bottom
Under the title "Smart Host" you need to enter the name/ip address of the mail server

Thanks anyway for your answer Kaily :o)
